Dearest Liam,
We are in celebration mode over here, because your (beastly) second molar just popped through. What a relief, because I'm sick with a nasty cold and we leave for our long trek to the U.S. tomorrow. It is going to take about 30 hours (with a 12 hour layover in Orlando), but I am so excited to get out there!

Your Vovó Hooch has gone to town- buying a brand new crib and high chair, 3 plastic cars (legitimately for you to ride in type cars), a trampoline, a swing, a water station (not sure what you call it), and tons more. I'm not sure there has been a more spoiled baby. Being the first grandchild has its perks, lucky you! Everyone can't wait to see you, and I can't wait to show you off. Haha.
My new favorite thing is when you walk into the room or I come to take you out of your crib I'm greeted by an enthusiastic, "HIIIIiiiiiii!!" You will also wave whenever you want to peace out, or if someone says "tchau" "bye-bye" or the ever dangerous words, "nigh-nigh" (goodnight.)
You also love playing with any type of ball. You pick it, chuck it (with impressive force might I add), then run after it panting. Only to do it 5 million more times. Approximately.

Your favorite thing in the entire world is leaving the apartment. Anywhere. If you hear the door open, or see Alex or I putting on our shoes, or hear the elevator arrive for our neighbors, you just book it to the door and refuse to budge. The door and frame is covered in your handprints. So we usually ride down with Alex when he leaves for work and watch him drive away. Immediately when we open the door you bust out of there, screaming excitedly. Prettttty funny.

Usually everyday we will go walk around downstairs, playing the different playgrounds and dipping our feet in the pool, or even swimming. You love to follow the older kids around, but are usually shy at first. This shy side is coming out more and more, but you warm up pretty quick.

I now only nurse you 2-3 times a day, before naps and bedtime. I'm not sure how we are going to wean, because you are really attached! But we nurse in the family room, then I put you you in your crib sleepy so that you learn to fall asleep in your own. Sometimes it takes an hour, but you are usually content in there doing who knows what. Whatever it is, apparently it is pretty hilarious because you are always giggly about it. You get really giggly when you are tired and nursing, I love it!

Eating is getting better, but I think a major problem is that I never bought a high chair. So we just spoon feed you, but typically we are chasing you around to do so. I avoided the high chair because of our limited space, but I kinda regret it to be honest.
Well that's it for now! I'm hoping to get a nap in too, since I only slept 3 hours last night.

I need to remember that right now, you are my primary job. The cleaning can wait. The emails can pile up. The meals can be ordered. But no one else is going to be your mom, and no one else is ever going to love you as much as I do. I also bet no one else is ever going to find as much joy in your little smile or contagious giggle. No one will quite crave holding you while you doze like I do. While I'm at it, no one else will change more of your dirty diapers, or spend more midnight hours feeding you. No other woman will lose as much hair or sleep over him (I hope.) No one will ever spend as much time dressed in your spit up or soaked in your drool. This hump was a great reminder to slow down and appreciate all of it because while I love a well-checked to do list and a beautifully clean home, my real formula for happiness is your smile, little fingers, and sleepy head resting on my shoulder. June 18, 2015 Liam, tonight I’m sad! I put you to sleep, and usually I have so many things to do that I start getting fidgety and put you in your crib. Tonight, I couldn’t bear to. All of a sudden I am overwhelmed (and slightly angry to be honest) at how fast the time has gone! When you turned one, it was a completely joyous occasion. I kept waiting to feel the split emotions that I always hear about mom’s having at this milestone. I was having way too much fun with this new stage, and you sleeping through the night (haha) that I didn’t feel one ounce of it. But oh boy am I feeling it now! Tonight I held you, and watching your beautiful face for probably 45 minutes- until you started getting fidgety and wanted to stretch out. Where in the world has the time gone?! I wish I could live this year over and over again. You have been the biggest joy in my life. I’ve never laughed so much- ever! I can’t stay angry with you for more than 3 minutes. Birth Story

On Sunday, April 13th we went on a walk with Daniel, Hannah, and their boys at Parque Taqueral. I was complaining that I hadn’t felt any braxton hicks in 2 weeks, and was convinced that this little man didn’t get the memo that he wasn’t supposed to stay in there forever. When we were moving to Campinas two weeks before, I was having lots of contractions and was worried he would come before I everything settled with the apartment. Not to mention we had a broken fridge, broken washer, a dryer that nobody could figure out how to hook up, and two leaks that were flooding our kitchen. But by now, I was ready and dying for our little guy to get here! We had a good time on the walk, but still no braxton hicks. I then woke up to some mild period-like contractions the next morning at 3AM. I couldn’t fall asleep (every time I was just about fall asleep another contraction would wake me up.) They consistently came every 30 minutes or so until around 9, when they seemed to be petering off. S
