Dear Liam,
Alex is out of town so it’s just the two of us. I’m so, so lucky to be able to be at home with you all day. It has been a lot to adjust to, I have to say. I am a person who doesn’t function well without sleep. So most of the time I feel like I’m watching myself- I’ll be in the middle of saying something and wonder “wait what am I doing?” It’s really strange, and probably look like a zombie. But OBVIOUSLY I wouldn’t trade it for anything. We have the best time! I love cuddling with you, even though you snore pretty loud and it’s hard to get any sleep. Haha. Wonder where you get that from?
Yesterday I decided to try on one of your 3 month outfits, just for fun. I thought for sure it would drown you. Well, well, well! Joke was on me, because you fit perfectly! I ran to get the scale, and you weighed 9.8lbs!! You were fully dressed, but STILL! I am flabbergasted. Stop growing so fast little man!
However, you’re getting more and more alert, and smiling. It is the cuuutest. I can’t believe how much I love you. It’s amazing how instant that love was, and how exponentially it grows. You will projectile spit up all over me, so that I am basically soaked in foul smelling milk- and instead of being grossed out, I am so sorry for you. I remember my sisters always saying “it’s different with your own”- but I thought, either way dirty diapers and spit up are nasty! Well, it is true.
You’re a momma’s boy, and I’m secretly thrilled about it. I love that you already prefer me- and have since the very beginning. But you are great with Alex too. He is a burping pro- so whenever he is home, he does the burping. He has this magic touch, for me it takes forever! For never having an infant around, he sure is good with babies.
This week Lance and Ruth are flying out, I am positively GIDDY about it! They are dying to meet you. Ruth makes me send pictures every day, and I also send them to Lance and Tony. It’s a pretty big deal that you are the first grandchild. You will be spoiled rotten, naturally.
It was pretty last minute that we decided your middle name would be Lance. From the very beginning we knew we wanted to name you Liam, and Alex as a middle name wasn’t difficult either. But a couple weeks before you were born, Alex cautiously brought it up and asked if I would consider Lance as a middle name. I was pretty surprised by that, since I had Alex in my head for quite a while. And my grandma Rose already made the quilt. But Alex hasn’t had any requests this whole time, so if it was important to him- then I absolutely agreed. Plus it has a nice ring to it, right? When you were born and we announced the name- Lance wrote us an email saying how touched he was. He even got teary! I hope you grow up to be like him. He is such an amazing man.
